Not a situation I’m used to


Living on the plains, ‘breezy’ is a euphemism for high winds. So it’s a little hard to grasp the results of this research: the U.S. is getting less windy (from 1973 on). One possible explanation:

Some experts say the decreased wind speeds could be linked to global warming. For example, the warming of the earth’s poles decreases the difference in air pressure between the poles and the equator, and this difference is a factor in creating strong winds, according to one co-author of the study.

The post focuses on what that means for wind energy. I’m wondering what else it means—how would it affect weather patterns, seed distribution, erosion, flotsam and jetsam?
